Terrace on the Park...
the former
Port Authority Heliport is now a banquet and catering facility.
It is one of the few surviving structures from the Fair remaining
in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. |

The View from the Top
The View from
the Top... These
shots taken from Terrace on the Park, the former Port Authority
Heliport, show how the Park looks today. It's difficult to image
that more than 150 buildings once stood on the site of this veritable
forest of trees. From top to bottom ... the New York Hall of Science
... the Arthur Ashe Stadium on the site of the former Federal
Pavilion ... the NY City Building with Unisphere immediately behind
... the NY State Pavilion ... the Children's Petting Zoo on the
site of the former Chrysler Pavilion. Contrast this view with
The View from the Top on the Gallery Page.

Webmaster's note... I'd like to THANK those who contributed
materials to the Port Authority pages at nywf64.com. To Rod Smith who waited patiently for six(!)
years to see his photos of Terrace on the Park online. As always,
to Bill Cotter for contributing photos to the feature from his
fabulous collection of slides. To Gary Holmes for the Press Release.
To Bradd Schiffman for scans of the Fair's Progress Reports and
FAIR NEWs newsletters which make it oh so easy to work with to
put online. And to Eric Paddon for the copy of Business Screen
Magazine with its great behind-the-scenes stories of "how
they did that" at the Fair.
