It's a Small World For Pepsi-Cola's exhibit at the New York World's Fair 1964-65, the magic and excitement of Disneyland, which has enchanted 40 million youngsters and young-at-heart grownups, will be transplanted East for the first time. Called "It's a Small World - a Salute to UNICEF," it features lifelike, "audio-animatronic" figures of the world's children who sing and dance in full-color fantasy settings in their native costumes.
Tower of the Four Winds The entrance to the Pepsi exhibit will be landmarked by a graceful, soaring, 120-foot-high "mobile." With over 100 multi-colored elements spinning and swiveling in the breezes of the Fair grounds, it will be noticeable from practically any point within the Fair. "Meet me at the Tower of the Four Winds," will become the phrase for Fairgoers intent upon taking the happiest cruise that ever sailed around the world.
Fantasy Voyage Within the exhibit, visitors will board excursion boats, propelled by silent jet streams of water, which will glide to the near and far corners of a Disneyesque fantasy world. A few of the sights include a Very Leaning Tower of Pisa, a red and pink confetti-draped Eiffel Tower, a miniature Swiss Alps and a splendorous Taj Mahal.
Global Cruise Visiting every area of the world, "Small World" voyagers will be entertained en route by captivating sounds and sights. Irish wee folk and beguiling leprechauns will be dancing and singing in their native tongues; kimono-clad Japanese dolls, a yodeling Swiss mountain climber and Dickens-inspired English carolers atop a Cockney moon are only some of the more than 350 figures and dolls visitors will meet on the voyage. A multi-armed
goddess awaits silhouetted in a Balinese Temple door, a comely Cleopatra reclines on a couch in a serene Egyptian palace, and squadrons of magic carpets sail over Persian spires, minarets and festive places.
Animated Dancers As the boats slip by each stylized scene, visitors see animated dancers in colorful costumes mingled among the singers - fur-capped Cossacks performing the knee-straining "gopak," Central American youngsters doing the "paso doble," Scottish Highlanders doing the "fling," a Spanish flamenco dancer, a pair of French ballet dancers, a can-can chorus, and many others.
.....As the cruise ends, all the world's children assemble and sing the "Small World" song in English, dramatizing the simple UNICEF theme that "every child is all children."
Entertainment and International Welfare Combined Robert Moses, New York World's Fair President, has predicted "It's a Small World" will become one of the three or four top Fair attractions and praised Pepsi-Cola Company for combining entertainment with international welfare in its exhibit.
UNICEF stands for the "United Nations' Children's Found," and Pepsi-Cola takes pride in saluting this great international organization. Within the Company's two-acre Fair area, the United States Committee for UNICEF will operate its own pavilion and exhibit, furnished by Pepsi-Cola, to dramatize UNICEF's role in helping meet the needs of children in over 100 developing countries. UNICEF games, Greeting Cards, and literature will be available, and visitors are invited to view the UNICEF garden court, which contains a photographic display on the dramatic work of this organization.
