- FEATURES
- The Lithuanian Wayside Cross, erected in memory of those who have died and are dying in defense of Lithuaninan freedom, embodies ancient pagan symbols and Christian motifs. Thousands of these artistic forms of folk art formerly dotted the Lithuanian countryside. Today, the Communists have destroyed these shrines, but they cannot extinguish the spirt of the courageous Lithuanian people who long to be free again.
- The Cross was designed by architect Jonas Mulokas, built by Valerijonas Simkus, with sculptures by Ramojus Mozoliauskas. The base is by contractor John Klashus. Funds to construct the Cross were raised by broadcasters, Mr. & Mrs. Felix Daukus of Chicago and throughout the United States by the Knights of Lithuania, Catholic Youth Organization. The historical marker was made possible through the efforts of Anthony Snieckus.
